This blog covers a topic we all take for granted these days: Photoshopped, edited, retouched, airbrushed- whatever you call it, we all want our photos to have a professional and polished look to them.
Will you fix up my photos? I get asked this a lot and the answer is always- but in a natural way that still looks like you.
Firstly, When I take your photo, I shoot in RAW format. Think of it like an “uncooked” version of the image-all the info is captured but the image looks a little flat and unfinished straight out of the camera.
Photographing this way gives me more flexibility in editing your images but is not a product I can deliver immediately.
Every final image you see has been processed first to a more natural color, has distractions like the lighting modifiers removed and making the background even.
Then we get into the details that are specific to each person.
Retouching is not about altering your features or making you look like someone else. It’s lightly refining the photo—removing a blemish, softening but not removing wrinkles, reducing red eyes, whitening teeth, taming flyaways... The idea is to look like you on your best day.
My editing style is designed to highlight your personality—not hide it. I want people to say, “Wow, that looks just like you!” (with maybe a little extra sleep and great lighting). You’ll still see your freckles, laugh lines and some wrinkles- you earned those lines- let's celebrate that!
It’s meant to feel and look like you, even though I’ve spent time making sure everything in your portrait looks polished and professional.
You don’t need to be perfect to take a great photo.
It's my job to find the right lighting, posing and angles to flatter you. It is my goal to show you as other people see you.
And no over-editing. Just you on your best day!
