Tina was the second woman I had the privilege of photographing for my 40 over 40 campaign and I so enjoyed getting to know her some and hear some of her truly fascinating story.
Tina was born and raised in Australia and has the super cool accent to prove it!
She grew up in that area of north Queensland and in Fiji, moved every 2-3 years with dad's job. She is the oldest of 3 girls and was very close with her middle sister as they both swam and played field hockey for North Queensland.
Her Dad and super cool step dad are up north too. Her step dad has a 10 acre property where he grazes the cows her mother had always wanted and finally acquired before sadly passing suddenly in 2020.
Her middle sister is a dental assistant and her and her husband with their 24 year old son and 14 year old daughter also run their own huge 47 acre farm with cows, pigs, chickens, you name it. And the occasional snake that visits. It IS Australia after all!
The youngest sister is a psychologist.
She began her career in marketing in Brisbane then she and her husband worked for 18 months in London. They were on their way home to Australia when husband's former boss asked him to help on a project in Dubai for 4 months which turned into 1 year, then 2 years... they ended up living there for 10 years and really loved it!
They often joked that they arrived with a suitcase each then left with a 40 foot container and 2 kids! Both of her children were born in Dubai!
In a place where women don’t really work as there is no infrastructure to support women working(no childcare for instance) Tina found a way to stay busy and make money, creating opportunities for herself. She launched not one but three businesses, including Olivia’s Closet, which imported and sold beautiful party dresses for little girls, and Jellybean, high-end party favor company that once fulfilled an order of 250 custom gift bags for the 6th birthday party of a prince’s son.
In a city where it only rains two or three times a year, Tina’s love for a good rainy day was born. It was raining the day of her photoshoot but she didn’t mind a bit.
After Dubai, they moved to Nashville and have now been here the past eight years. Tina is raising her two teens—her 17-year-old son, who’s heading into his senior year, and her 15-year-old daughter, who’s dreaming of a future in marine biology. After recently stepping away from her job, Tina is taking this summer to regroup, recharge, and enjoy time with her kids before starting a new job with Community Health Services June 30.
Now divorced from her first husband now she is planning a wedding to be held in Australia in a few years to her fiancé, Alex.
In her free time she loves: "Camping with Alex in our cute little teardrop camper, otherwise somewhat homebodies, grilling and playing snooker at home of a weekend, and really soaking up time with kids, every minute I can with the 17 year old who's only got one more year here before he's off to college."
So glad that Tina was a part of my 40 Over 40 portrait experience, and I loved getting to photograph her. Her story shows some of her quiet strength and drive to make wherever she finds herself a better and more interesting place.
