Joy Chumley is the owner of Bright Star Bookkeeping, a fully remote bookkeeping firm that helps small business owners feel confident (and a lot less stressed) about their finances.

A Tennessee native by upbringing, Joy has spent her career bringing order to the numbers and calm to the chaos. She began her professional journey inside a growing retail company, where she gradually took on everything from bookkeeping and operations to marketing and financial strategy. Despite wearing many hats, she always knew the numbers were her favorite part.

With a long-held desire to run her own business, Joy launched Bright Star Bookkeeping full-time in 2021—proving that starting a business later in life isn’t just possible, it can be the perfect time.

And long before remote work was “a thing,” Joy was already doing it part-time back in 1993… on dial-up. (Yes, uploading spreadsheets really did take approximately three business days.)

Today, she supports entrepreneurs across the country from her home office, combining decades of experience with a sharp eye for detail and a genuine love for helping business owners feel in control of their finances.

Joy believes it’s never too late to build something meaningful—and that good bookkeeping can be a game-changer.
