Elizabeth Moss grew up in Richardson, Texas, with her mother and sister. Long before caregiving became her profession, it was already her way of life. By age six, she was helping care for her sister, cooking meals, bathing her, and taking on responsibilities that taught her compassion and resilience at an early age. When she was 11, she welcomed a baby brother into the family and happily embraced yet another caregiving role.
At 11 years old, she became a Candy Striper at a local hospital, beginning what would become a lifelong calling to care for others.
As a young adult, Elizabeth moved from the big city of Dallas, with all the modern conveniences, to rural Tennessee with her first husband. Life was challenging. There was no phone, no heat or air conditioning, and their food was grown by hand. While difficult at the time, the experience taught her resourcefulness and a deep belief in her ability to overcome adversity.
Later, she faced another life-changing challenge when she entered recovery from addiction. Today, she celebrates 37 years in recovery and credits that journey with shaping her empathy, strength, and commitment to personal growth.
Although caregiving had always been part of her life, Elizabeth officially entered healthcare in her thirties. After working as an Activities Director, she became a Certified Nurse Technician to explore whether nursing was the right path. She quickly fell in love with caring for the older adults, attended nursing school, and graduated at age 36.
During nursing school, Elizabeth provided private duty care for legendary entertainer Minnie Pearl. That experience reinforced something, what she already suspected: her heart was in one-on-one care and building meaningful relationships with the people she served.
After growing to be part of the nursing leadership team, she realized one-on-one care was where her heart was leading her. She took a leap of faith and launched a private duty nursing practice. Three families hired her immediately. As referrals grew, she hired her first caregiver and gradually built Caregivers by WholeCare, a home care company she successfully operated and later sold in 2020.
Today, Elizabeth continues her mission through several ventures. She is the Founder of CareCrown, a caregiver performance management platform designed for home care agencies. The system helps agency owners strengthen caregiver engagement, improve retention, and reinforce the behaviors that drive revenue, growth, and better care outcomes.
Through her other venture, The Art of Care, she coaches family caregivers, business owners, and individuals seeking greater clarity and transformation. She is also certified as an integration coach and is developing continuing education programs focused on caring for ourselves while caring for others. Elizabeth is currently writing a book, The Art of Care, which brings together the lessons, insights, and experiences she has gained throughout her lifetime of caregiving. The book explores how we can care for others without losing ourselves in the process and offers practical guidance for caregivers, professionals, and anyone navigating life's challenges.
Elizabeth currently serves as President of the Nashville chapter of NAWBO, the National Association of Women Business Owners and sits on the Board of AgeWell Middle Tennessee. She is also active as an Ambassador for EO Nashville, the Entrepreneurs Organization. Whether mentoring entrepreneurs, supporting caregivers, writing, coaching, or building technology that strengthens the caregiving workforce, she remains guided by the same purpose that began in childhood: helping others feel cared for, valued, and supported.
I so enjoyed learning more about Elizabeth. What struck me most was how naturally caregiving flows through every chapter of her life. The confidence and strength you see in these images weren't built overnight, they were earned through decades of caring for others, building businesses, overcoming challenges, and continually reinventing herself.
