Meet Britt : your friendly neighborhood Cardiologist!

Britt was born and raised near the small town of New Concord, Ohio. She and her younger brother grew up on a 55 acre former farm that has been in the family for over 100 years. Her father was the first in his family to graduate from college. He ran the family power equipment company, and was respected in the community for prioritizing ethics in his business. Her mother also set a powerful example, balancing her 45-year career as a medical lab technician with managing the family's finances and daily operations.

Britt knew she wanted to be a doctor for as long as she can remember. She attended college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, graduating with a degree in biology. She continued on to medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She was fortunate to remain at Ohio State for her internal medicine residency, a postdoctoral research year in vascular biology, and her cardiology fellowship. She completed 11 years of postgraduate medical education and training in 2011. After that, she enjoyed her practice as a general cardiologist within a regional healthcare system in southern Ohio.

While at Ohio State, she met her husband, John, an interventional cardiologist who was there pursuing his MBA. They married in 2010, and welcomed their daughter in 2013.

It is often through adversity that we discover the true path we are meant to follow. When their daughter was only a few months old, John experienced a cardiovascular event caused by a genetic type of high cholesterol, resulting in partial loss of vision. This was life changing for the family in many ways. The family moved to Nashville for John's new career as a healthcare executive, and Britt's professional interests naturally evolved toward a new focus on the subspecialty of preventive cardiology.

After practicing for 8 years with a large healthcare system in Nashville, it became clear that cardiovascular prevention does not lend itself well to the insurance-based model of healthcare. Today, Britt and John are moving into the next chapter, having recently opened their own concierge cardiology practice, Young Cardiology, in Belle Meade. Their goal is to create a space where patients receive the time, attention, and personalized care they need and deserve — a move away from the limitations of traditional practice and toward a model centered on prevention and long-term health.

During her 40 Over 40 photoshoot, Britt was fun and engaging. So glad she decided to participate in the 40 Over 40 campaign in addition to getting the needed headshots and branding photos for her new venture. We talked about her journey through medicine, family life, and the decision to build something new. Her commitment to her patients and her belief in doing things differently are clear in every part of her story. I can’t wait to see their new website and to hear how the clinic is doing!
